At a film screening on Wed., June 13, 2018, EASTCONN’s Arts at the Capitol Theater Community Video Production Class released a recruitment video they produced for the Willimantic Police Department.
In partnership with police department, students spent a year gathering footage of officers in action and highlighting specialty positions within the department. The video will be used by to recruit new Willimantic police officers.
“The police department was very accommodating,” said Media Technology Teacher Dan Boisvert. “They took students on ride-alongs and exposed them to a day-in-the-life of an officer.”
“This is bigger than just a recruitment video,” said Willimantic Police Chief Robert Rosado. “It’s a chance to make a connection with our partners and with students in the area. We are creating relationships.”
The officers who attended the screening encouraged students to participate in the annnual Summer Youth Leadership Academy hosted by the Willimantic Police Department. The course is free and provides leadership training, life skills, personal development, team building challenges, public service opportunities and more.
“Making the video was a great thing,” said senior video production student Christian Ereshena. “It was great to see how the officers interact with the community and that they really aren’t scary people.”
