Welcome to ACT/LEAP/QMC’s Online Learning Plan page. We miss you and look forward to connecting virtually until we can reconnect in person in the near future. Your administration, teachers and all support staff are dedicated to supporting you and your families during this unprecedented time. We have created a flexible learning approach that delivers essential content to students in each of your courses. This page provides information on that plan.

Continuous Learning Frequently Asked Questions
Classroom Office Hours are not required for every period or class of a student's schedule. However, students are encouraged to contact their teachers for 1:1 support.
Para professionals and Instructional Assistants who are typically support to students in class will be available for additional support in the upcoming days during designated times.
ACT/LEAP/QMC are providing multiple supports to students who have IEP and 504 plans. These include:
- Untimed assignments with flexible due dates. Students with IEPs will work with their special educator and teacher to determine appropriate flexibilities due dates.
- All assignments posted in Google Classroom will include accommodations for students with IEPs and 504 plans as identified.
- Content Support classes, those classes that provide students with additional targeted instruction, will hold Classroom
- Office Hours as all other classes do. Students can check in with their special educator for support in meeting their goals.
- Special Educators will identify and provide a schedule for small group work and individual check-ins.
- Special Educators will work collaboratively with teacher colleagues to review assignments and be prepared to support students.
- Special Educators are creating learning plans to meet each student's IEP goals.
- School Counselors will check in
- Google Classroom -The primary method to conduct online continuous learning form home is through Google Classroom. By Friday afternoon of each week , teachers will post assignments on this platform outlining learning expectations for the following week. Teachers will focus on the work that is most essential for student progress. Teachers will assign a reasonable workload and encourage students to balance their online work with other needs. Using Google Classroom’s features, teachers can post messages and documents, embed links to content, comment on student work, and much more. Classroom also includes features that allows students to submit their work electronically and reply to their teachers and classmates. Each student has an individual Google Classroom account for each class. For questions about accessing Google Classroom, students should contact their teachers directly.
- Google Meets - This video conferencing application serves as a secondary method to support online learning. Through the platform, teachers will offer Classroom Office Hours weekly in each course. Students will work on their Google Classroom assignments during the week and will check in with their teachers via Google Meets during Classroom Office Hours. Attending Classroom Office Hours will be tracked for attendance. We understand there are many various circumstances that may prevent a student from participating. If for some reason a student cannot participate in the designated time, we strongly encourage students to communicate with their teacher before or after.
- GMail - Like Google Classroom, Gmail is a communication tool that EASTCONN students and teachers now have access to and will use regularly moving forward with our Online Continuous Learning from Home Plan.

While a survey was sent to all families asking if they had a device and Wi-Fi, we may have missed you. Please contact your schools building administrator if you need either.
In addition, students can download the app for Google Meets and Google Classroom if they have a mobile phone device. This way they can receive information and participate in class until one is received.
While teachers are monitoring all aspects of student participation, teachers understand that students may not always be able to attend their Office Hours. This platform is intended as a secondary support to students.
Teachers will identify learning targets for the week, clarify concepts, respond to student questions and provide guidance and support for students. They will not be teaching full lessons or directing instruction for more than 20-30 minutes. Students may ask questions, provide feedback and seek additional support. Classroom Office Hours be useful to check for student understanding and gauge pacing of instruction.

Once students see their assignments posted in Google Classroom, they can complete their work when it best meets their schedule. Each teacher will communicate when work is due, but all will remain flexible as we move education online for the first time. To support student learning, we have built a schedule for students to check in with their teachers using Google Meets.

Student Privacy and Confidentiality
While your child is participating in his/her ACT, LEAP or QMC classes online, similar to in-class expectations based on board policy, we ask you to keep in mind student privacy and confidentiality. While students are working we understand it may be inevitable that a family member sees the class. We ask that family members respect the online time and not engage with the session. Family members and students are prohibited from personally sharing online/on-screen student images or audio files through any social-media-sharing platform, such as Instagram, Facebook, etc. The only sharing allowed is for educational purposes, with prior permission from the school.
Privacy and confidentiality is important for all students and families. Please help EASTCONN maintain the privacy of all of our students.
It is against EASTCONN policy to share login ids and passwords or to provide access to EASTCONN e-resources to anyone not authorized.
Continuous Learning Helpful Hints
We encourage families to help students establish daily routines during this time. Routines are helpful to provide continuity, support students in achieving their goals, and offer structure as we transition to a new way of operating. By having assignments posted by a certain time each week and providing Classroom Office Hours, we hope to support each student as they continue their academic journey.
Dress appropriately. Some teachers may have live video sessions with their classes, small groups, or individuals. So it’s important that you dress as you would for school.
It’s very important to remember that while distance learning may appear to be less formal than traditional learning, the expectations are the same. Here are a few tips to help you with your distance learning etiquette.
- Remember when engaging in group discussions to not use all capital letters or too many exclamation points.
- When engaging in dialogue, respect the opinion of others. Politely agree and disagree with others.
- Sarcasm doesn’t translate well. Avoid using sarcasm.
- Understand the tone of your writing. Reading your post out loud will not only help you find errors but will also help you determine if your tone sounds appropriate.
- Continue to use good manners. Using manners such as please and thank you go a long way.
Distance learning is new for many people. You may find that you have a lot of questions or need additional support, but there’s no need to worry or feel stressed because your teachers are with you every step of the way. If you have questions or need help then reach out to your teacher. We are all in this together and will be successful!

- Report to a medical professional immediately if experiencing flu-like symptoms and a fever.
We appreciate that the ACT/LEAP/QMC Online Learning Plan is new to everyone: students, teachers, and families. While we cannot replicate the classroom learning experience, we have designed meaningful, targeted weekly learning opportunities for the coming weeks. Classroom teachers and support staff (special education, school counselors, etc.) will communicate with you regularly via email. As you have questions, we encourage you to reach out to your child's teacher or building administrator.
Students and teachers will access tech support through the same channels as if you were in your buildings using the online ticketing system.

Make sure to factor in movement breaks to burn off energy – movement helps focus so having breaks every hour or so will be required.
Create an area of the house for school work and keep it distraction free and organized.
Stick to a routine and keep it predictable – this links in with using a visual schedule but even if you don’t use one, keeping things predictable reduces anxiety.

Keep your mindset positive – remember this is not forever if we are all doing our part to minimize the impact of this virus we’ll be back to our normal routine before you know it.
