Overview

EASTCONN’s Psychological & Behavioral Consultation Services Department offers (a) appraisal, assessment, and/or program evaluation, (b) consultation and technical assistance, and (c) professional development to teachers, staff, teams, and administrators related to the following areas. Throughout this work, we are focused on the development, implementation, and assessment of evidence-based practices that facilitate systemic improvements.

School- and district-wide
  • Data-based decision-making
  • Multi-tiered systems of service delivery (e.g., SWPBIS, SRBI), assessment (e.g., screening), implementation, evaluation
  • Best practice in academic, behavioral, social skill supports
  • Systems to support students with intensive needs, including developing practical Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) for students with mild to moderate behavioral concerns
  • Crisis prevention and response
  • Home-school partnership
Classroom- and program-based services
  • Tier 1 - Ecological variables, instructional practices, and classroom management strategies
  • Tier 2 - Evidence-based interventions for at-risk populations (small group intervention) including measurement of knowledge gain and behavioral change (social skills, anger management, problem-solving)
  • Tier 3 - Cooperative-learning strategies, visual supports, and other classroom management techniques to support students with special needs (i.e., ADHD, ASD)
  • Classroom and programs may include general/special education classrooms, autism programs, alternative settings (e.g. for students with ED, life skills programs)
Individual Student
  • Comprehensive diagnostic, psycho-educational, and/or functional behavioral assessment
  • Curriculum-based assessment/intervention for academic issues and related specific evidence-based academic interventions
  • Development, implementation, and progress monitoring of evidence-based academic/behavioral interventions (direct or indirect support to students)
  • School-based counseling
  • Risk/threat assessment
