EASTCONN offers students from eastern Connecticut two great public, magnet high school options for grades 9-12:
Arts at the Capitol Theater (ACT) – Located in the beautifully renovated Art Deco-era theater in downtown Willimantic, ACT offers a rigorous, arts-integrated curriculum; small class sizes; talented, caring teachers; and opportunities to participate in more than a dozen performances each year. Areas of focus include acting and theater; technical theater (set design, lighting, sound, and costume design); audio/video; dance; and creative writing.
Quinebaug Middle College (QMC) – Housed in an airy, new, state-of-the-art wing of Quinebaug Valley Community College in Danielson, QMC invites its students to take college courses and earn free college credits, while completing their high school education. Taught by caring teachers in a rigorous, democratic learning community, these self-directed, non-traditional students help plan their own course of study. Motivated students can graduate from high school with more than a year’s worth of free, transferrable, Connecticut state university system credits.
