Early Head Start - Serving Pregnant Women and Children, Birth to Age 3
EASTCONN’s Early Head Start is a federally funded program that provides support and resources to pregnant women, children ages birth to 3, and their families. EASTCONN offers home-based and center-based programs in Windham County. Windham Public Schools administers center-based programs for the Windham area and Stafford Public Schools administers a home-based program in Stafford and surrounding towns. Benefits of Early Head Start include strong family involvement and support with child development, education, health, nutrition, mental health, and safety. Income guidelines apply.
Center-based Programs
At our centers, children receive:
- Full-day, full-year care, with a child-centered approach to learning
- Daily nutritious meals
- Coordinated services to provide tools and resources addressing the child’s health and educational needs
Home-based Program
In our home-based program, home visitors come to participants’ homes for weekly 90-minute education sessions, for families who are pregnant or parenting a child under three. Families gather regularly for play and socialization and are linked with a variety of resources and services according to their needs. The EASTCONN programs are committed to high-quality early childhood programming, including highly qualified teachers and home visitors, ongoing professional development, small class size, a low child-to-staff ratio, and parent engagement in their children’s learning.
Head Start - Serving Children Ages 3-5
EASTCONN’s Head Start is a federally funded program for children, ages 3 to 5. Head Start programs promote school readiness by collaboratively enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social, and other services to enrolled children and their families. Benefits of Head Start include strong family involvement and support with child development, education, health, nutrition, mental health, and safety. Income guidelines apply.
EASTCONN offers a variety of Head Start programs. Options include center-based programming in Killingly, Putnam, and Plainfield and a home-based program serving Tolland County. Windham Public Schools administers a center-based program in the greater Windham area. Children are given the opportunity to participate in learning experiences that promote social and emotional development and appropriate academic skills. Teacher observations of your child’s learning experiences are documented daily to complete assessments that are used to support classroom learning experiences and differentiate planning.
