Facilities Services
Facilities support is available on a fee-for-service basis to EASTCONN member districts, their municipalities, community-based organizations and others. Facilities' certified experts can provide safe, healthy learning and working environments through services that include: consulting; radon testing; facilities/maintenance audits; and facilities management and staffing consultation.
Facilities Audit Services
EASTCONN is prepared to support school districts that may not have the on-staff expertise necessary to make determinations about long-range facilities needs, including maintenance and overall improvement planning. Our experts will do extensive and detailed on-site audits of facilities involving electrical, HVAC, roofing, structural systems reviews and energy conservation plans. Our experts will provide school boards with the information required to plan for capital investments in the long-term life of school facilities and/or to retrofit to meet changing energy demands.
Radon Measurement Service Provider
EASTCONN's radon expert will visit your facility and conduct a short-term radon test to determine radon levels, which should not exceed 4.0 pCi/L. Then, allow our expert to fill out the paperwork and notify the state of the results. The state requires that all radon testing be conducted between November 1st and March 31st. If radon levels at your site exceed government standards, EASTCONN will help you secure a reputable radon mitigation firm to do the work. Every daycare facility in the state must conduct a radon test at the time of licensure [CT Public Health Code, 19a-79-7a. (e) (16)]; the state has also required that every school be tested for radon before January 1, 2008 [CT General Statute 10-220(d)], and every five years thereafter.
Indoor Air Quality
On and after January 1, 2024, and annually thereafter, each local or regional board of education is required to provide an inspection and evaluation program of the indoor air quality within each school building using the Environmental Protection Agency's Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools Program. EASTCONN documentation can be found in this IAQ Checklist PDF. Please note that this PDF is supplied by the Environmental Protection Agency and does NOT meet the requirements for ADA Compliance.
Green Cleaning Program
The State of Connecticut requires that each local and regional board of education implement a green cleaning program for all schools and facilities in its district.
