Connecticut Youth Employment and Training Program
The Connecticut Youth Employment and Training Program offers year-round employment opportunities for eligible youth ages 14-24 in eastern Connecticut. Participants gain hands-on experience in health careers, worker safety, clerical work, landscaping, human services, food preparation, and more.
Through a partnership between the Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board, EASTCONN, Thames Valley Council for Community Action, and New London Youth Affairs, youth earn minimum wage working 80-100 hours during July and August, with some internships extending longer. The program includes training in résumé writing, goal setting, career exploration, and budgeting, helping youth develop skills for their career pathway while connecting with their local community.
You must be a resident of one of these towns to apply: Ashford, Bozrah, Brooklyn, Canterbury, Chaplin, Colchester, Columbia, Coventry, East Lyme, Eastford, Franklin, Griswold, Groton, Hampton, Jewett City, Killingly, Lebanon, Ledyard, Lisbon, Lyme, Mystic, New London, North Stonington, Mansfield, Montville, Old Lyme, Norwich, Plainfield, Pomfret, Preston, Putnam, Salem, Scotland, Sprague, Sterling, Stonington, Thompson, Union, Voluntown, Willington, Windham, Woodstock, and Waterford.

In-School Youth Program - COOL (Careers of Our Lives) Directions
COOL Directions is a free program for high school juniors and seniors (ages 16-18) in Windham, Danielson, and New London who face barriers to employment.
Includes:
- Paid internships: Work at real jobs related to your career interests
- Career support: Assessment, exploration, job placement help, and transition planning
- Skills training: Financial literacy, reading, math, and life skills
- Work readiness: Leadership, communication, and team-building skills
- Academic support: help with school and building your career portfolio
- Mentorship: Work with a caring adult mentor
Youth Employment - Jobs, Education & Training Program
Jobs, Education, & Training (JET) is a free program for ages 17-24 who want to start a career. Work with a career advisor, job developer, and teacher on high school completion, job training, and job search. Eligible students get financial help with childcare, transportation, driver education, and other needs. JET Interest Form

- Career exploration: Paid internships, on-the-job training, job shadows, and job search help
- Work readiness: Resume writing, interview skills, professional dress, computer skills
- Education: Free high school diploma or GED with flexible scheduling
- Training certificates: Earn national Customer Service credentia
The JET and COOL Directions Programs are programs of the Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board and are funded through the US DOL Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.
