Arts at the Capitol Theater Student Literary Magazine Wins National Excellence Award
EASTCONN’s Arts at the Capitol Theater (ACT) Performing Arts magnet high school in Willimantic, CT, has earned national recognition for its student literary magazine, Quill & Ink. The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) honored the magazine with an “Excellent” designation through its Recognizing Excellence in Art & Literary Magazines (REALM) program.
This year, 456 student magazines from schools in 44 states, Washington, D.C., and six countries were nominated for the competitive awards program. Magazines from middle school, high school, and higher education levels competed for recognition.
"Quill & Ink showcases the diverse styles, themes, and voices our creative writing students develop at ACT," said ACT Principal Sarah Mallory. "This publication exemplifies our commitment to real-world learning—students don't just write for the classroom; they create work to share with a broader audience."
"We are honored and delighted to earn this recognition," said Senior Izekeial Phelps Bedore of Gales Ferry. "We are excited to continue doing just as well on this year's book." The award-winning Volume 4 of Quill & Ink is available to view at: https://tinyurl.com/QuillAndInkVol4.
